10 things you can clean with sun rays

Hamsters are one of the most purchased animals as pets, because they can live in a small space inside apartments or houses and are usually very affectionate with humans. They do not need excessive care, although it must be ensured that they can exercise enough, as they are very active animals.

Generally, you should not bathe a hamster, because they wash themselves with their tongues. You should only consider bathing if it has been in contact with any harmful chemicals or if it has something stuck in your hair. Even if your hamster needs a bath, it is advisable not to use water unless it is absolutely necessary. This is due to the fact that these animals are very sensitive to cold and, when wet, their immune system could be weakened, which could result in them contracting some disease. In addition, water may remove natural oils from your skin and hair.

Therefore, it is very important to know how to clean your hamster without harming your health. Here we explain how.

Steps to follow:

Buy some sand for chinchilla at a pet store. You must ensure that it is sand and not dust, otherwise it could generate a respiratory problem in your pet.

Serve the sand in a bowl that is large enough to fit your hamster.

Let your pet roll in the sand. In this way, most of the dirt on it will be removed.

Once ready, take your hamster out of the sand and make sure it is clean.

Return it to its cage.

What do you need?

  • Sand for chinchilla.
  • A container in which the sand and your pet fit.

Clean your hamster with a damp cloth

If the sand bath is not enough and your pet has some pegoste or potentially dangerous substance in its fur, you might consider giving it a bath with a damp cloth.

What do you need?

  • A medium sized container.
  • Temperate water (one or two cups).
  • Shampoo for pets without scent (you will only use it in case your hamster is very dirty).
  • A cloth.
  • A soft towel that is completely dry.
  • Prizes for the hamster.

Steps to follow:

Fill a bowl with one or two cups of water at room temperature. If your hamster is very dirty, add only one drop of pet shampoo and make sure it is unscented. There should be no foam: if foam forms, it means that you used too much shampoo.

Grab a cloth and dip it in the water. Make sure it is very wet.

Rub your pet with the damp cloth in the direction of hair growth. Do it gently, as if you were stroking your hamster.

Once you are ready with the damp cloth, dry your pet with a soft towel. You should also pass the towel following the direction in which your hair grows.

Return the hamster to his cage. If you can put it in a hot place to recover from the cold, try to do it. Avoid being in contact with cold air at all costs.

Give a prize to your hamster and consent.
